Pooling Partners delivers UK’s Christmas favourites on a pallet

‘Tis the season to be jolly and bringing home the Christmas cheer – and for one business a time to play the role of ‘Santa on a pallet’ delivering everything from turkey, sprouts, parsnips, potatoes, mince pies, beers, soft drinks, snacks and crisps in their millions during the run-up to the festive period.

Coventry-based Pooling Partners, the international company which delivered hundreds of millions of items and drove more than 1.2 billion pallet miles last year, will be also be adding a sprinkle of salt, but not for our festive roasts, but in the shape of Tarmac Building Products grit and road dressing to keep us safe this winter. The company, based in Meriden is looking for an ‘Elfy’ performance from client sales including Bernard Matthews turkeys, Golden Wonder crisps and Nivea beauty gift sets, to name just a few brands making way to the supermarket shelves ahead of the Christmas rush.

Cranberries, sultanas, crackers and an array of party foods, as well as Christmas wrapping and packaging materials will also be making their way through the supply chain this peak season – not on a sleigh, but a sustainable wooden pallet courtesy of Pooling Partners.

According to the Institute of Grocery and Distribution (IGD) which represents the fresh produce supply chain, Britons will spend in excess of £20 billion on food shopping this Christmas across the physical supermarket and online platforms, a figure that has incrementally increased every year in line with supermarket spends on Christmas advertising campaigns.

Pooling Partners, Europe’s biggest manufacturer and pooler of wooden pallets for the supply chain, which works for brand giants including Swizzels, Bath Ales and Tayto Golden Wonder, predicts a larger rise in demand, according to its forecasts. “We move everything from turkey, mince pies, crisps, snacks, beer and Nivea gift sets and we are already seeing demand increase on 2015,” said Phil Storer, UK director for Pooling Partners, which is based in Meriden Business Park, Coventry.

“Apart from fresh produce and gifts, we even deliver rock salts for the road for Tarmac Building Products and the Christmas Poinsettia plants, so we are well versed in delivering Christmas and all the trimmings.”

For Pooling Partners, it is business as usual as it forecasts from season to season. It has, for example, just delivered a bumper Hallowe’en for brands such as Swizzels, which makes some of the most famous ‘penny’ sweets on the market for the buoyant ‘trick or treat’ market that has seen significant year on year growth. “As the season approaches, the goose may be getting fat, but we will be staying trim with all the pre-Christmas running around,” added Phil.

Providing the effective rental, retrieval and repatriation of pallets to optimise the supply chain in line with cost and carbon reductions, Pooling Partners minimises downtime and maximises cost and efficiency savings for clients as part of what is termed the ‘Circular ECO-nomy.’ This ensures greater efficiencies for market-leading brands such as Bernard Matthews, Golden Wonder, and Nivea as well as ensuring that they are never in short supply on supermarket shelves.
