The Automated Material Handling Systems Association (AMHSA) has had a very busy 2016, its 30th anniversary year. As well as holding several training workshops for members, AMHSA was heavily involved in the industry’s premier exhibition, IMHX, which was held at the NEC in September. With over 30 members exhibiting – both in the AMHSA Pavilion and on larger stands around the show – automation was well represented at the event. AMHSA also hosted a series of ‘Meet The Experts’ seminars to inform IMHX visitors on various aspects of automated handling and storage.

Apprenticeship programme

AMHSA also had a major presence in the Future Skills Zone at IMHX 2016, where its ‘walk-through apprenticeship experience’ promoted the association’s own apprenticeship scheme, which is offered in conjunction with car manufacturer, Toyota. Explains Martin Elliott, AMHSA President, “Our apprenticeship scheme enables AMHSA members to offer a high-quality, four-year training programme to candidates. The apprentices spend the first two years learning a range of hands-on, high-tech engineering skills at the state-of-the-art Toyota Academy in Burnaston, Derbyshire, and the remaining two years building on this with industry-specific skills and knowledge at the premises of the AMHSA member.”

Promoting excellence

As the voice of the UK automated handling industry, AMHSA is committed to promoting excellence in terms of solutions, aftersales support, reliability and safety. In 2016 the association has continued to contribute to the formation and revision of Europe-wide policies and standards. For example, AMHSA is currently helping to form cycle time standards for shuttle storage systems in association with the FEM (European Federation of Materials Handling).

Meet AMHSA at IntraLogisteX AMHSA will once again be partnering the IntraLogisteX show, which takes place on 15 & 16 March 2017 at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. This event will provide another great platform for AMHSA to present the benefits of logistics automation to an industry facing everincreasing demands for speed and efficiency.

A full schedule for 2017

In addition to its zone at IntraLogisteX, AMHSA has a number of events planned for next year. These include workshops on the latest developments in ecommerce packaging, Brexit, warehouse design and the future for WMS/WCS/WES solutions – find more details about these events on the AMHSA website.
