The heating and lighting company, Victory, claim that significant savings can be made on warehouse heating costs by using their electric infrared heaters instead of gas powered space heating. As Victory infrared heaters are a directional heat source, they can be targeted specifically at areas where people work. The company say this is a far cheaper option than heating the whole volume of the warehouse, including stock, racking, walls and ceiling.

On their website, www.victorylighting.co.uk/warehouse, they illustrate how a warehouse of 864m2 could reduce a typical monthly energy bill of £1960 to just £440 – a saving of £1520 per month, or nearly 80%. They explain that the warehouse would require 292.5kW, or nearly a million BTUs, of gas space heating. Victory’s energysaving alternative is to provide electric infrared heat directly to the workbenches in the warehouse, using just 30kW – a fraction of the energy required for space heating. Like lighting, infrared heating is instant, so it is highly controllable and does not require any preheating.

To take advantage of this the company also offer PIR sensors and remote control dimmers which can further reduce heating costs by delivering the exact amount of heat only when it is required.

The system is also ideal for areas where doors are often open, such as loading bays, the company says. If space heating is used in or near such areas, a great deal of heat can be lost. The on-demand nature of infrared heating makes it perfect for this situation as it is unaffected by air movement, and with IP ratings up to IP66, many of the company’s products can even be used outdoors.

Heaters are available in a number of formats and finishes, from 1.5kW portable units to 4.5kW wallmounting ones. There are also a variety of options for the lamps that are fitted, including low glare versions.

Victory is offering readers the chance to find out how much they could save. Just provide them with some simple information about the area(s) you want to supply heat to and they will calculate what your energy use would be. You may get a pleasant surprise when you compare it to your current heating bills.
