The logistics company has introduced a twice-weekly link from its bases in West Thurrock, Bradford and Redditch to depots in Madrid, Barcelona and the Basque country.

With a depot-to-depot transit time of just three days, the service – which operates in both directions – offers collection across the UK and onward delivery throughout the Iberian Peninsula, including all areas of Portugal.

Also recently launched is a new UK to Athens link which sees freight transported direct to the Greek capital via Transmec Group’s European network.

Already a market leader in freight services between the UK and Italy, the new routes mark the next step in the company’s continuing expansion.

John Simkins, general manager of Transmec UK, said: “Our new routes have been launched in response to growing demand from customers and they are an important part of our strategy to continue expanding the number of destinations we serve throughout Europe.

“Following hot on the heels of our launch of new links to eastern and central Europe, they further enhance Transmec’s offer, enabling us to provide a comprehensive service for UK importers and exporters which includes intermodal options.”

Transmec Group has a 300- strong European fleet, employs 900 people and has a turnover of 400 million euros. Its UK operation employs 150 people and has a turnover of £30 million.
