As the British Trade Association of the Storage Equipment Industry, the Storage Equipment Manufacturers’ Association continues to lead on safety in the storage industry.
Committed to promoting and extending the safe design, installation and use of storage equipment manufactured and supplied by its members, it offers accurate, generic guidance and a structured approach. SEMA’s member groups interrelate to lead the UK storage industry towards a competitive, zero accident place to work.
The association builds ever closer links with statutory and lead bodies including the HSE, CSCS and RoSPA. It has around 165 members (including racking inspectors), and SEMA’s extensive network operates UKwide.
It runs circa 100 training courses a year, has published 75 definitive technical documents and since the scheme’s introduction in 2000, trained over 4000 SEIRS installers.

SEMA Safety Conference 3rd November
Learn how major brands and industry experts manage safety in the storage industry at SEMA’s annual safety conference Safety in the Storage Industry: Meeting Customers’ Expectations on Thursday 3rd November at the National Motorcycle Museum.
The event starts at 9.30am, includes a buffet lunch and is excellent value for money at £135 + VAT.

SEMA’s Codes of Practice continually revised SEMA’s Codes of Practice set the standard in quality of storage design and safety and are continually revised. Recent publications include a major upgrade (to embrace new technology and test methods) and the republication of the SEMA Design Code for Adjustable Pallet Racking.
SEMA’s 2015 Code of Practice for the Design and Use of Racking Protection (costs £58) is recognised as the most comprehensive in Europe.
SEMA has also updated and published its Code of Practice for the Design and Use of Cantilever Racking Systems which supersedes the earlier version dated 2004 as clearances and serviceability limits have now been revised. SEMA also runs a Cantilever Rack Safety Awareness Course aimed primarily at end users. It is designed to highlight those key areas that the end user should inspect on a regular basis in order to maintain their cantilever racking equipment in a safe working condition. SEMA Approved Installation Companies launch best practice video on new website SEMA Approved Installation Companies (SAICs) have launched a short video illustrating how adjustable pallet racking is safely constructed in a real, live build pallet racking project, using the trained and qualified personnel of a SEMA Approved Installation Company.
