WLN – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

I take pride in satisfying customers’ requirements, resulting in exciting solutions to their material handling problems from our proposals supported with reliable and honest advice.

WLN – Who has inspired you most in your career?

The sales director I reported to in my first sales position in the material handling industry. His name was John Murdoch and he inspired me to present myself with confidence, focusing on the customer’s requirements and correctly identifying opportunities. My father also inspired me with his honesty and commitment for hard work.

WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

I would be a hydraulic rotating attachment with the ability to turn in all directions and grasp everything securely to increase safety, production and efficiency.

WLN – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

I have always enjoyed challenges and achieving results, however the thing I would do differently would be to make earlier investments to move the business forward sooner.

WLN – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

Back in the early days I responded to a customer’s urgent requirement by jumping into a delivery van to deliver a hydraulic part. Twenty-five miles later I arrived on site to realise that in my haste the part had not been loaded into the vehicle! I immediately returned and re-delivered the part. Although an embarrassing error, the customer was grateful to have received the part the same afternoon.

WLN – Who or what makes you laugh?

The comedian that gets me laughing is Peter Kay.

WLN – Do you have any hidden talents?

I think it’s my ability to compose myself and keep smiling when facing difficult situations or under pressure, although it’s been said that I can also produce beautiful floral displays in hanging baskets and tubs.
