Everything we buy, wherever in the world it’s from, passes through logistics and materials handling processes on its way to us, underlining this sector’s significance to businesses and consumers alike and confirming the importance of IMHX2016 as a one-stop source of information for buyers and decision makers.

Running over four days at the NEC Birmingham, from Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th September and sponsored by Investec, the show brings you the best of today’s equipment and solutions for this essential part of all our lives.

With over 400 exhibitors taking part, IMHX 2016 is on track to be the biggest ever show in the event’s history with upwards of 100 forklift truck suppliers, over 40 automation specialists, more than 30 warehouse and supply chain IT providers, over 25 packaging companies and more than 60 general materials handling exhibitors. And you can also find the Warehouse & Logistics News team on stand 9D25.

IMHX is all about seeing the leading equipment and solutions in action under one roof. A consistently popular attraction is the Demonstration Zone, where the leading truck suppliers put their products to the test, showing off their capabilities and versatility. With IT solutions growing in importance in the supply chain and in recognition, IMHX 2016 also features the first dedicated Supply Chain IT Village.

One enthusiastic participant is Warehouse Management Systems specialist Proteus Software.

Proteus’ Marketing Manager David Bugden said: “This is our fifth IMHX and the IT Village provides a great platform for technology providers like us to meet customers and showcase new innovative developments.”

With over 200,000 companies employing around 2.5 million people, logistics is the UK’s fifth largest employment sector and is booming, putting pressure on companies to recruit and train talented people with the relevant skills. In another innovation for 2016, IMHX’s organisers are introducing a Future Skills Zone highlighting the careers open to young people in Britain’s logistics sector, and featuring leading employers.

Leading UK companies participating in the Future Skills Zone include leading forklift truck manufacturers Toyota Material Handling, Linde Material Handling, Crown and Jungheinrich. Formerly the BITA Academy, the Forklift Training Engineering Centre (F-TEC), the industry’s training centre for apprentices and engineers, is also providing information on apprenticeships.

The Future Skills Zone is also home to the Future Skills Presentation Theatre, featuring presentations from aspiring young logisticians offering insights into what a logistics career path can entail. Visitors to the Zone are also invited to play the board game Business on the Move, to see who can make the most profit in just 15 minutes. Competitors aim to maximise the value of their deliveries by air, land and sea at the same time as minimising their carbon footprint.

Taking place in the main hall, forklift operator training is a key area for skills development and the regional heats of the RTITB Operator of the Year return to IMHX in 2016. Coinciding with IMHX, this is held every three years to find the best forklift operator in the country and encourages operators to strive to be the best as they prove themselves in a series of heats.

The Design4Safety awards, organised by the British Industrial Truck Association (BITA), are also part of IMHX 2016, highlighting the importance of design in improving product and service safety standards. You still have time to enter at www.imhx.biz/design4safety .

Finally, walking round a show the size of IMHX is hard on the feet, so why not take a rest while you learn about the industry?

IMHX 2016 also features a high quality seminar programme, to help visitors find solutions and pick up ideas from leading professionals. Taking place in the dedicated Seminar Theatre over the four days of the show, these sessions provide the opportunity to learn from some of the UK’s leading logistics companies.
