CLICK HERE TO LAUNCH THE AUGUST 15th DIGITAL EDITION OF WAREHOUSE & LOGISTICS NEWS MAGAZINE

Welcome to the August 15th edition of Warehouse & Logistics News. With more exhibitors than ever, if you’re looking for top quality warehousing and logistics suppliers IMHX 2016, which takes place in September, is a good place to spend a day or two talking to possible candidates. We’ll be previewing the show in our IMHX Preview, published with our September 1st issue. But first, mailed with this issue we present our IMHX 2016 Exhibitor Focus supplement, a selection of some of the major companies at the show. Each one we are highlighting is a key innovator in their area, helping keep the warehousing and logistics sector the driving force behind UK industry.

This time four years ago all eyes were on the London Olympics, which proved a major triumph not only for Team GB but also the UK logistics industry, as we reported at the time. With the Rio Olympics upon us, here’s a thought for all the international supply chains supporting the venues, the surrounding areas and most important of all, the competitors.

To help you go for gold in your business, in this issue we have special features on Forklift Trucks and Flooring. On the Forklifts front, next month’s FLTA ‘Safetember’ forklift safety campaign will demonstrate that everyone in the warehouse should look out for their colleagues’ safety, especially as 57% of injuries involve workers who were pedestrians. But it’s also up to management to address the key aspects of operator training, signage, lighting and flooring, all contributing to forklift accidents.

As our Flooring feature reminds us, the most important and potentially troublesome element of warehouse construction is the concrete floor, yet this is likely to be the most neglected and most abused, leading to a host of problems. Mezzanine floors are also a key part of flooring. As part of the feature we interview Alec Grice, MD of specialist gratings supplier Lichtgitter UK, for whom warehousing and logistics operations are a major growth area. Staying with our Olympic theme, if your office or warehouse has a mezzanine floor with gratings from Lichtgitter you have that in common with the London Olympic Stadium and the walkways to the Centre Court Roof at Wimbledon.

Finally, the end of the year is a busy time for people in this business and diaries get booked up as the festive season approaches. As featured on our front cover, the SEMA 2016 annual safety conference ‘Safety in the Storage Industry: Meeting Customers’ Expectations’ takes place on Thursday 3rd November at the National Motorcycle Museum. A strong line up of speakers will cover current statutory regulation and generic product related topics illustrated by case studies to learn how major brands and industry experts manage safety in the storage industry.
