One of the UK’s largest waste water service providers had a specific, technically challenging request and turned to Herchenbach for its tailored expert solutions. The company needed housing for a slow sand filtration pilot plant where stable conditions and minimal outside influence were key to the success of the pilot. The site was used to collate data for analysis and the semi-permanent building needed to house testing equipment and support a metal mezzanine structure. Challenging terrain, demanding construction conditions and specific requirements for a seamless fit around the pilot plant meant that no regular off-the-shelf structure would be suitable.

Herchenbach’s expert team visited the site to ensure it completely understood the specifics that characterised this uncommon request. Analysing the particular requirements for the pilot plant area and mezzanine, the technical team carefully worked out a tailored solution for the building and the construction procedure. Stuart Rathbone, Managing Director of Herchenbach UK, says: “the limited size of the designated working area and both the position and size of the previously built pilot plant made this a difficult job for our team.” The temporary warehouse needed to be installed around preinstalled equipment, which meant that Herchenbach had to rethink its traditional construction methods and lift-in the pre-assembled frames with a crane. While adhering to strict Health and Safety policies, a new procedure and a custom technical construction plan including new RAMS was developed.

After the plans were approved by Herchenbach’s Technical Director, delivery and installation began within two weeks. The construction team ensured frequent liaising with the 3rd party supplier that would simultaneously carry out adaptation works to the mezzanine around the pilot plant. This was critical for the successful completion of the project, as the portal frames of Herchenbach’s structure and the modified mezzanine would be only millimetres apart.

Fine eye for detail, vigorously checking of technical restrictions and excellent communication were some of the critical competencies of Herchenbach’s technical team that proved integral to the successful completion of the project. The building from Herchenbach’s own temporary building range was installed within 3 days and without any unforeseen problems. As put by the clients’ Operations Director: “We knew we had a difficult request, but the Herchenbach-team gave us expert advice and tailored support. They came up with a reliable solution that ticked all the boxes and was constructed fast and without issues.”

Herchenbach is the industry’s leading and trusted provider for a range of semi-permanent building solutions to capacity problems. Able to offer expert solutions to the most challenging circumstances, it is the UK’s only provider that manufactures its temporary building solutions itself. This allows them to not only better understand your needs but also to provide a solution that comes directly from the manufacturer’s technical desk itself, ensuring optimal and smart solutions for the most complicated situations.
