Dan Starnes and Denzil Davies of Eastbourne based Goplasticpallets.com, the UK’s leading independent supplier of plastic pallets and containers, will embark on the biggest physical challenge of their lives when they cycle an endurance testing 910km through stages 8 to 12 of the Tour de France as part of the Tour de Force five stage challenge, with the aim of raising over £2,400 for the William Wates Memorial Trust.

“I have been driven on to train hard and complete the challenge in the knowledge that every penny I raise will help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential,” said Denzil Davies.

This Tour de Force challenge will be a first for both team members, as neither has cycled such a spectacular or testing journey before. 47 year old Denzil has already experienced the very hilly Pyrenees on his trusty motorbike; however, for Dan, this will be his first encounter with the French mountains. Both cyclists have been clocking up the miles in the last 10 months; their training routes have taken them all over the South Downs, from Rye to Tenterden, through Crowborough and Lewes to Newhaven and Eastbourne.

From July 2-7, the brave and enthusiastic cyclists will explore the roads into the Pyrenees, tackling mountain climbs on Andorra’s highest road pass, before enjoying a steady decent onto the Garonne plain and then crossing the Langeudoc-Roussillon and Bouches-du-Rhone regions, taking in the stunning sights of Carcassonne and Montpellier, and finishing off with an epic ascent on the iconic Mont Ventoux.

“It’s going to be a tough and enduring ride, but I’m determined to complete this adventurous challenge and raise as much as I possibly can to support the great work that the trust does,” said Dan Starnes.

Needless to say, everyone at Goplasticpallets.com fully supports Dan and Denzil and wishes them all the very best and no tyre punctures along the way. If you would like to help our charitable cyclists exceed their target of £2,400, please sponsor them via their www.virginmoneygiving.com fundraising pages by entering their names in the Make a Donation area.

The Tour de Force

The Tour de Force cycling event offers the opportunity for riders to tackle anything from two to all 21 stages of the Tour de France each year whilst raising funds for the William Wates Memorial Trust.

Each year, 3.5 billion people watch 22 teams of nine riders take part in the Tour de France, which is about the same number of cyclists who take part in Tour de Force Tour Tasters, averaging 78 cyclists per stage.

This year, the William Wates Memorial Trust will follow all 21 stages of the 2016 Tour de France route, staying seven days ahead of the professionals and finishing on July 17 on the Champs Elysees in Paris.

Next year’s Tour de Force will start in Düsseldorf on June 24 2017. For more information about signing up for the 2017 stages, please visit www.tourdeforce.org.uk.

William Wates Memorial Trust

The William Wates Memorial Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates, who was tragically killed when travelling in South America. The Trust is a grants giving registered charity set up in 1998 with a mission to help the most disadvantaged young people keep away from a life of crime and violence, and fulfil their potential. This is mainly achieved by supporting charities that engage young people through the mediums of sports, arts and education.

2016 promises to be our biggest year yet – 20 years since Will died and 10 years since the inaugural Tour de Force. If you would like to find out more about what the trust does, please visit www.wwmt.org.
