It has been a busy start to the year for Hörmann, with 20 new major projects already on the books and 500 loading bays on order. The leading industrial door and loading bay manufacturer is continuing to work with some of the country’s biggest businesses, such as Asda and Amazon, but is also starting to see growing demand in new areas.

There’s been a nationwide increase in the supply of units, with both speculative and build-to-suit warehouses popping up across the country, and Hörmann has been reaping the benefits. The company’s loading bay equipment was recently selected for the DP World London Gateway Port and Logistics Park due to its adaptability. With cargo being off-loaded from the container ships onto cassette trailers rather than lorries, the site required modified loading bays that could cater for these unique circumstances, something that Hörmann could provide.

Having worked predominantly on large-scale big shed or distribution centre projects, Hörmann is also now becoming more involved in smaller loading bay sites. This shift in demand has come about following the growth of e-commerce and changing shopping habits, forcing retailers to develop new ways to satisfy consumer needs. Hörmann has enjoyed an increase in orders coming through for smaller, localised warehouses capable of faster turnarounds for delivery to thousands of homes, as opposed to the traditional large hubs.

Hörmann has also made a number of internal changes, recently investing considerably in its service department and improving its core offering. As a result, the manufacturer has seen a significant increase in demand for its maintenance packages, with 30-40 per cent of projects now being sold with a service contract.

A range of different levels of maintenance packages is now available to suit the varying needs of customers. The “premium plus” package, for instance, includes expert training from Hörmann’s team so that in-house engineers will be able to undertake basic maintenance, thereby minimising the need for costly call outs.

Now, as well as providing competitive maintenance contracts on all Hörmann products, the company is offering to service any brand of industrial door or loading bay as part of its flexible packages.

Round the clock call outs are available for emergency maintenance and customers can even enjoy a discount of up to 10 per cent on Hörmann replacement parts and labour.

Employing more engineers and investing more in their training has led to increased efficiency throughout the service department. This improvement is then passed on to customers in faster response times and a higher quality of service with a better first time fix rate.
