frontWelcome to the May 1st edition of Warehouse & Logistics News. The next few weeks will be very busy for all our readers in the industry who are either exhibiting at or visiting the various trade shows here and in Europe. We wish everyone well.

READ THE May 1st ISSUE

It was good to meet so many of you at the recent Foodex event and we trust you had a successful few days. Staying with the shows, Warehouse & Logistics News is an official media partner for Multimodal, the UK and Ireland’s leading freight transport and logistics exhibition, at the NEC from 10- 12 May. You can read our show preview in this issue. The Alternative Pallet Company are the lead story in our Multimodal supplement and you can visit our stand 624 to view their brand new Pallite pallet box.

If you’re going to CeMAT in Hannover at the end of this month, you will find out who has won at the 2016 IFOY Awards, which will be presented during the event. If BYD’s three-wheeled ECB18C electric forklift truck is successful in the Counterbalance category, it will be a great accolade for China’s forklift industry and for BYD, who are also the world’s biggest rechargeable battery manufacturer. You can see my report and pictures from my recent visit to BYD’s Shenzen HQ on page 11.

On our front cover we hear how Hörmann are set for another record year for their industrial doors and curtains, with 20 projects on the books and 500 loading bays on order. Hörmann continue to work with major retailers such as John Lewis on big shed builds, and as we recently reported have now finished a project with TNT installing 101 doors at their new depot in Swindon. Hörmann is also involved in a number of jobs at UK ports.

There’s more about doors and curtains in our special feature in this issue. Today’s industrial buildings have to deliver high standards of environmental performance even when the doors are open and pedestrian footfall is high. Hence Nortek Global’s air curtains project for Boots’ flagship store at the Oracle Centre in Reading, which you can read about in our report.

Also in this issue we have features on Warehouse Flooring and Lifting & Cranes. Warehouse floors are a serious business, but definitely don’t have to be dull looking. Colour coded products from Watco and others can help revitalise tired warehouses and motivate staff, while structural flooring boards for office and showroom areas from Eggar can combine functionality and style. Finally in our Lifting & Cranes feature we have news about materials handling and industrial equipment supplier TVH, who will be at the Vertikal Days show at Haydock Park, Merseyside in June, introducing a selection of parts for aerial work platforms alongside their other services to the warehouse and logistics industry.

Have a good month and we look forward to seeing you at the shows
