Palletforce member Lockwood Haulage has opened a new depot in West Yorkshire.
The Pontefract site is some 60 miles north of the firm’s headquarters in Derbyshire and will enable Lockwood to cover five DN postcode areas in and around Doncaster for the leading pallet network.
“We already do a lot of business in the area so it made sense to establish a base of operations there,” explained Lockwood’s key account manager Keith Allsop.
“Obviously it has the added advantage for the Palletforce network of enabling us to cover these five postcodes.”
The depot opened for business in February with a team of three drivers on site. And according to Keith, its proximity to existing customers has already proved beneficial.
“In terms of efficiency and economy the depot is hugely preferable to the alternative, which has been sending trailers up and down the M1,” he said. “It’s also reassuring for customers to know that Lockwood now has a presence on their doorstep.”
Lockwood Haulage was launched in 1965 when the associated frozen food business Lockwoods Ltd purchased a number of vehicles to deliver its frozen mushy peas.
The firm now has four warehouses at its Ambergate headquarters, capable of storing over 26,000 pallets and recently opened a new 11,000 sq ft warehouse and transport facility at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
