Costo, in partnership with the main contractor Allied Storage, delivered an automated warehouse system for Carlow Warehousing Ireland.

Carlow-PR2016-5[7]

Carlow Warehousing is shifting its traditional warehousing business to providing modern logistics services. The new warehouse is located near Dublin and is said to be the largest e-commerce fulfilment centre in Ireland.

The Allied/Costo team delivered an automated order picking solution on a 4-tier multi storey shelving system. Costo also delivered the Arrow Warehouse Management System (WMS), which controls all the flows and enables excellent stock management.

The new facility is an addition to the total logistics capacity of Carlow Warehousing and measures 50.000 m2. In order to meet higher demands in output and speed, the choice was made for automated systems. In fact, the deployment of an automatic system also meant Carlow could guarantee higher service levels to the client, whilst still performing at a competitive price level.

The multi-tier racking system (with a mezzanine construction) provides 4 levels of storage space. Each level got a connection with a conveyor system for both inbound and outbound flows. Employees work in a zone picking system and they use wrist terminals and pick trolleys during the order picking process. Goods are then transported to the packing & control zone. The Arrow WMS determines whether order picking or replenishments activities should take place. The whole system enables Carlow Warehousing to dispatch goods for their clients the same day, while keeping maximum control over the whole stock.

Larger goods are stored in pallet racks, which provide around 40,000 pallet places.

The final phase of this facility was recently fully complete
