frontWelcome to the February 15th issue of Warehouse & Logistics News. With Valentine’s Day on Sunday 14th, love is in the air and it’s a massive business. The warehouse and logistics industry has been playing Cupid in the run up to the big day, processing and delivering all the Valentine’s gifts bought online and instore.

Despite the date, there’s nothing remotely romantic about our features in this issue. However you can rely on our reports to help you identify your requirements and find trustworthy suppliers, products and services.

In our ‘Pallet Networks’ feature we hear how network operator UPN is outgrowing the sector in terms of new members and additional volume handled in the last year.

As advances continue in batteries and charging and changing systems, spark new ideas about powering your fork truck fleet in a cleaner, greener way with our second feature, ‘Power Sources.’

With spring on the way, it’s time to think about cleaning and brightening the warehouse after the winter. As featured on our front cover, racking protection supplier The Rack Group is offering ultra-durable HDPE racking barriers in solid vibrant colours, replacing clunky metal barriers with lightweight plastic ones that look clean and bright and can stand the same impact as metal systems. Here’s a thought: make your racking barriers work harder, not just protecting your assets but projecting your company as up to date and forward thinking, by giving the workplace a shot of colour.

Finally, in time for Valentine’s Day, we have fresh evidence that the warehousing and logistics industry has a big heart. As we went to press we heard that to celebrate production of the 400,000th truck at Yale’s Northern Ireland plant, the company gave a Yale Veracitor VXS, signed by the factory staff, to Oxfam to replace a 20 year old truck at its Bicester distribution centre, where it will help the charity respond to worldwide emergencies and save lives.

Yale’s partner RAVAS has also given i-Forks to speed the truck’s operations by automatically weighing loads and Yale’s UK dealer Briggs Equipment has offered to maintain and service it. See the full story on page 18.

Are you and your company doing something to help make a difference? Don’t keep it to yourself – send us the details and we’ll report it in Warehouse & Logistics News.

Have a good month.
