From 2016 the Government has stipulated that all public construction projects are to be built using BIM, and as a result, architects and specifiers are increasingly turning to digital platforms for their work. Leading door manufacturer Hörmann has its own digital offering through the NBS National BIM Library, the fastest growing of its kind in the UK.

Hormann-Standard-Logo---LargeHörmann’s sectional and highspeed industrial ranges are already accessible from the library, with digital versions of its rolling shutter and grilles currently being developed. The manufacturer is looking to extend its BIM range throughout 2016 to include its loading bay technology and hinged doors, with long term plans to also incorporate its domestic offering.

Each BIM object provides all the relevant technical data and requirements for designers to virtually install a Hörmann product in such a way that it will be fully functional in reality. As such, BIM has the capacity to significantly reduce the potential for error during the construction stage of a project, saving time and money for everyone involved.

In creating its own BIM objects and presenting its product range in the necessary format, Hörmann will be able to forge even closer working relationships with industry professionals. By having all of the relevant information attached to its BIM objects, the manufacturer also hopes to see a significant decrease in the number of incorrectly installed doors and equipment, subsequently reducing onsite risks.

To help ensure that the correct door is specified initially and all equipment is installed and maintained in line with current legislation, Hörmann offers two RIBA CPD seminars.

Porsche-1414-090207[6]Hörmann’s seminar, Specifying the Correct Door, helps architects identify the best door model for their projects, offering advice on both the beneficial qualities and potential challenges that come with various door styles, including general costs and design options.

Product and Design

Responsibilities Under New BS EN Construction Products Directive and CDM Regulations, aims to educate architects on current requirements as well as providing advice on how this can both benefit and affect the industry. The seminar will also discuss health and safety on a worksite and the measures that should be put in place to minimise risks.
