WLN – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

I work with a great team, for us no two days are ever the same. We serve such a diverse customer base, so for me working with different people and companies to ensure we achieve the optimum solution for individual applications is the most exciting part. I’ve got to learn about the challenges and drivers across many different sectors, and a little bit about each industry.

WLN – Who has inspired you most in your career?

Three people have been kind enough to coach me along the way; the first gave me opportunity; the second taught me how to focus; and the third to have confidence in my own ability. All three are very seasoned professionals whose wisdom is still sought from time to time.

WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

That’s easy, an EFAFLEX SST in metallic black with four vision panels; sleek and fast – our industry equivalent of a perfectly formed sports car!

WLN – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

Be patient and listen more.

WLN – What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you at work?

I’m prone to the occasional ‘blonde’ moment. Recently while out with colleagues for dinner I managed to tip the waitress more than the price of dinner because I couldn’t read the chip and pin screen (I’m overdue an eye test!) I don’t think the waitress could believe her luck; thankfully the restaurant spotted my error and corrected it much to the amusement of my colleagues.

WLN – Who or what makes you laugh?

For really belly laughs it has to be Blackadder – the same guys did so many funny things in the 80/90’s, they all seemed to get more sensible as they got older.

WLN – Do you have any hidden talents?

Squeezing two eight-hour days into one!

WLN – Who would be your favourite party guest?

James Hunt – a real hero from a more carefree era, boy did he know how to party!

WLN – What is the greatest luxury in your life?

Bench made shoes.

WLN – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

A good malt (and a packet of Marlboro Lights!)

WLN – Do you have any secret ambitions?

For our children to be exposed to as many positive situations and life experiences as possible, hopefully rounding them out to make good decisions in later life.

WLN – What’s your dream holiday destination?

Port Stephens – a beautiful area north of Sydney. Perfect beaches, sunshine and as much fresh seafood as you can eat.

WLN – What are your three favourite movies of all time?

I’m a petrol head, so Rush and Senna would be up there; and anything from the Star Wars series.

WLN – What is your favourite book of all time?

Steve Jobs – by Walter Isaacson. An insight into someone who truly thought differently and the impact his behaviour and habits had on those around him.

WLN – What’s your favourite pastime?

Anything that involves spending time with my wife and children.

WLN – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

Probably much the same just over three days with a little place somewhere on the North Wales coast to escape to.

WLN – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry?

You will learn something from almost every experience, what you start doing can always be a step towards where really you want to be. Try hard to treat colleagues, customers and suppliers as you wish to be treated. But most of all enjoy what you do; it makes life so much more fun.
