Toyota Material Handling UK has introduced a specially selected team dedicated to keeping operators safe by carrying out Thorough Examinations on materials handling equipment.

chazThe experienced team is dedicated to carrying out Thorough Examinations at customer sites across the UK on a wide range of lifting equipment including forklift trucks and warehouse equipment.

A Thorough Examination is a legal requirement when owning or operating lifting equipment with forks. Companies are required to ensure the equipment meets safety requirements set out by the Consolidated Fork Truck Services Ltd (CFTS). It is a mandatory check to make sure that the mechanical parts of your material handling equipment are in safe working order. The CFTS is a joint venture between two major industry trade organisations in materials handling, The British Industrial Truck Association (BITA) and The Fork Lift Truck Association (FLTA). They represent manufacturers, dealers and suppliers within material handling, as well as the users of equipment covered by the Thorough Examination regulations.

The CFTS are also the acknowledged experts on Thorough Examination of fork lift trucks. The result is Consolidated Fork Truck Services (CFTS): the national accreditation scheme for Thorough Examination, specifically for companies who service fork lift trucks.

The Thorough Examination team at Toyota are accredited by the CFTS and conduct examinations that meet and exceed the legal requirements of LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Regulations Equipment) examinations. A LOLER examination covers the lifting parts of the truck, whilst a PUWER examination will examine other safety related parts such as steering, brakes and tyres.

The team will be led by John Magill, a Senior Thorough Examination Technician at Toyota who has worked with the company for over 25 years.

John says, “I am proud to be part of a team that proactively ensures the safety of the operators. Making businesses aware of the safety implications of using dangerous equipment is an important part of the Thorough Examination. I am able to carry out an examination then explain my findings afterwards with the customer, leaving them with a better understanding of their equipment.”
