Thorworld Industries has reinforced its reputation as a manufacturer of bespoke loading and unloading solutions with the installation of two wide-access loading platforms for renowned access equipment provider Niftylift. The Milton Keynes-based company has recently moved into a purposebuilt factory, reflecting its substantial growth as a one of the largest manufacturers of MEWP’s in Europe.
As part of the transition to the new site, Niftylift required a customised outdoor loading environment capable of meeting the needs of two very different types of vehicle, as Dave Allen, Manufacturing / Production Engineering Manager at Niftylift, explains.
“Our products are generally transported on flat-bed trailers or standard container trailers. It was crucial that we have a solution flexible enough to switch between the two. “In addition, due to the nature of our range, the ramp had to be wide enough to accommodate all of our core products.”
In choosing a company to devise a suitable solution, Niftylift looked to an existing supplier. “We have used Thorworld yardramps for a number of years,” confirms Dave Allen. “Not only do we have one in operation at Milton Keynes, but also a second ramp at our facility in Leipzig, Germany.
“The yardramps have performed well throughout and met our requirements, and we have always been impressed by Thorworld’s customer service, making them the obvious candidate to help us with our latest loading project.”
Thorworld designed and manufactured two modular solutions, each consisting of an extra-wide yardramp, platform and dock leveller. The latter element was carefully positioned to ensure that it could be raised or lowered to gain access to, respectively, a container or a flat-bed trailer, while still maintaining a safe gradient for operators.
The platforms are now fully installed and being used on a daily basis to support Niftylift’s busy throughput. “The Thorworld platforms are an essential element of our logistics operation. The quality of installation, service and performance remain of the high standards we have come to expect from Thorworld,” concludes Dave Allen.
