The key to the success of any Pallet Network is the quality, commitment, and “buy in” from all its members. This quality, commitment and “buy in” of course must be reciprocated by the Network Provider itself.

With this in mind UPN has this year undergone significant change with a view to establishing a strong foundation for the next stage of its expansion plans.

A new management structure has been put into place in 2015 to further a total UPN focus on member support and development. It all started when David Brown stepped up earlier this year from Commercial Director, to Managing Director.

“What I am doing,” said David, “is continuing to take UPN forward as a quality organisation with a market leader mentality. To do this I am looking to ensure that as a company we are always working totally in synergy with our membership and their own local needs as businesses. As a result I am placing great emphasis on communication, one to one member support, and strengthening the “glue” between all aspects of our network.”

With this in mind David has established the company’s first national team of Regional Directors to work closely with UPN members nationwide.

Former Fortec and TNT man Andrew Knowles joined as Regional Director – South East, whilst Jayne Lowndes joined from UK Pallets as Regional Director – South West.

Kevin Nightingale became Regional Director for the Central Region. Nightingale has previous management experience at Wincanton, P&O and Hargreaves.

The fourth Regional Director is Andrew Spencer, who has been in the pallet sector for fifteen years and with UPN since 2009. Andrew will be covering the North, Scotland and Ireland.

UPN also confirmed Richard Arnold as its new Legal Director. As partner in Wilson Browne Solicitors, Arnold has been the UPN company solicitor for some fifteen years, and recently retired from practice.

“It’s a strong team,” said David, “with a powerhouse of experience and expertise, and a team that UPN is looking to, to help take our business, and all our members businesses to the next level.”

Being a part of UPN gives its members and their customers access to currently the widest range of UK next day and economy services for palletised freight.  UPN offers the market a choice of the widest range of pallet specifications, from its unique Micro Pallet at 150 kilos through to full Pallets, each weighing up to 1,200 kilos.

The UPN network is underpinned by an advanced web based performance monitoring system to provide customers with clear on-going visibility of all freight movements. Clients also have access to an online customer booking system, a track and trace facility and real time signature capture.

UPN was the first palletised freight system with a real time signature capture system in place, designed to help client companies improve their own competitive edge and deliver better customer service, day in and day out.

Through its on-going innovation in advanced real time and web based IT infrastructure, constantly evolving to continually improve freight visibility and customer service, UPN is now widely recognised as a Pallet Sector technology leader.

Now 85 strong and with an on time delivery success for over 99.9% of consignments the UPN member network is consistently outperforming the sector, a fact borne out by the statistics of APN (Association of Pallet Networks). Under the radar for many years since it was established in 2001, UPN is now firmly established as one of the leading UK Pallet networks.
