‘Protecting Your Assets’ is at the heart of SEMA’s Annual Safety Conference this coming Thursday 5th November. The focus largely centres upon the third element in SEMA’s year-long campaign: Three Steps to Safety; safe design, safe installation and safe maintenance and repair. Read the full 2015 conference programme on page 6.

SEMA has spent almost half a century developing the know-how on how to maximise your assets in three ways; by capitalising on your building’s space to profitable advantage; through the design and installation of storage systems that are fit for purpose while preventing damage to items stored; and with the utmost respect for the health and safety of personnel. ‘Assets’ refers not only to products and buildings but also to personnel, your bank balance and reputation in the event of an accident.

ASDA to speak on CDM

To meet new CDM regulations, ASDA is leading on compliance. Its Safety, Health and Environmental Manager; Neil Sheehan will outline how the multiple retailer has taken ownership and led by taking a pragmatic, proportionate and sensible approach for each project. He will summarise the function and responsibilities of the Principal Designer and Contractor and outline ASDA’s audit measures. Delegates will learn how ASDA implements best practice by partnering with City Facilities Management which provides comprehensive and bespoke hard and soft facilities services to all Asda retail stores across the UK.

Event Chairman and SEMA President Matt Grierson said: “If you think safety is expensive, try having an accident. Don’t shatter lives! Every business has a duty to maintain a safe working environment to its employees and subcontractors.

“The safety job’s not done until the industry becomes a zero-accident place to work. Help is at hand. SEMA’s five groups work together as an organisation committed to promoting and extending the safe design, installation and use of storage equipment manufactured and supplied by our members.”

SEMA is the British Trade Association of the Storage Equipment Industry. It is committed to promoting and extending the safe design, installation and use of storage equipment manufactured and supplied by its members.
