Siemens, synonymous for designing engines for the aviation and oil and gas industry, have recently placed a repeat woven bag order with Toorak Limited. This comes after an initial successful trial followed by an opening bulk order, where Midlands based packaging specialist supplied INTERCEPT woven bags for the transit of Siemens gas turbine engines.

INTERCEPT Technology™ is available in sheet form, bags, shrink-wrap or a woven material. MD Richard Hancock explains, ‘Logistics, shipping and manufacturing personnel typically face a similar conundrum – that of packaging products to protect them against rust or corrosion during their transit or storage. INTERCEPT offers many advantages over more traditional packaging materials which include environmental as well as cost savings. Previously, Siemens used aluminium barrier foil bags which can be labour intensive to make and, more liable to tear. The heavy-duty INTERCEPT bags simply zip up and can be reused time and again with each carrying a 5-year warranty. The transport and storage bag features a transparent window so that the data plate can be viewed at customs points around the globe.’

Initially Siemens trialed the product before ordering 7 different sizes of woven bags for their gas turbine engine range, with 5 styles being reordered due to increasing demands. They will again be used within their supply chain and will help take tasks out of the refurbishment process, to reduce labour and material costs. The zip negates the need for wrapping and following inspection of the engine, the subsequent rewrapping. Due to the properties of INTERCEPT, there is no requirement for oiling or greasing of the engine, which coupled with its reusable nature makes this a ‘greener’ packaging solution.

INTERCEPT with its corrosion protection benefits has become globally accepted within many industries. It’s fast being recognised as a superior method in comparison to more traditional packaging and guaranteed for long term protection of up to 15 years, working within a broad temperature range -35°c to +80°c.
