ThinkLink Learning launched ‘Forklift Operator of the Year – India’ competition through its Pragu?a initiative, in partnership with leading workplace transport training accrediting body in the UK, RTITB. The competition is supported by a number of renowned organisations including National Skill Development Corporation, World Skills India, Jungheinrich, Godrej Material Handling, Nilkamal, Rhenus Logistics, TVS Logistics, Mahindra Logistics, Reed Manch, Cargo Connect and Forkliftaction.com.

Employers can nominate their staff or forklift operators can nominate themselves using a simple online entry form at www.rtitb.in/operatoroftheyear.php. Successful applicants will be put forward to the regional heats, where they will compete for a place in the grand finale in November 2015. To take part in regional heats, participants must hold a valid LMV driving licence, a Company ID card or a bona fide Certificate (if Company Nominated) and must be physically and mentally fit.

“The Operator of the Year competition is a fantastic way for warehouses, distribution centres and manufacturing centres to position themselves as leaders in lift truck related safety and efficiency,” explains Saurabh Goyal of ThinkLink Learning. “It is also great for their employees, to advance their careers and receive some recognition for their ongoing hard work and skills.”

Participants will attend regional heats in September and October at one of four locations across India: Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, or Chennai. Practical lift truck challenges will help the operators to demonstrate how safely and efficiently the operators drive their lift trucks.

Following the regional heats, eight national finalists will go on to compete at a grand finale in November 2015 at ThinkLink’s Pragu?a Centre at Dharuhera. A set of challenging live practical rounds will determine the winner and runners up.

Along with the esteemed title of ‘Forklift Operator of the Year- India’, the winner will receive a trophy and a trip to England to participate in the UK’s 2016 Operator of the Year competition. All grand finale qualifiers will receive free RTITB training and certification as well as a host of other exciting prizes.

Moreover, companies nominating a minimum of four operators for all regions will also have the opportunity to participate in the “Best Forklift Workforce of the Year” award.

In the UK, RTITB has been hosting its prestigious, tri-annual Forklift Operator of the Year competition since 2008, with many previous entrants going on to become forklift training instructors.

“Lift truck operators are often only considered or taken notice of when accidents, damage and delays occur, but the Forklift Operator of the Year competitions in the UK, and now in India, aim to change this, by focussing on the positive impact of the job,” explains Laura Nelson, Managing Director of RTITB. “The country’s best operators will demonstrate how safely and efficiently they operate their lift trucks.”

ThinkLink Learning began working with RTITB earlier this year to launch Pragu?a, an initiative for outstanding vocational skilling in logistics, and India’s only RTITB accredited Lift Truck Driving certification provider.
