Union Industries has wasted no time in helping Lancashire-based Bryans Salads to improve access to its food production facility via an external opening exposed to the elements.

18019 After receiving a call from Bryans Salads, Union Industries visited its site the very same day and provided a quotation for the installation of a Rapid Roll Door. Within a month, Union had installed its market-leading Bulldoor High Speed Door, complete with features such as radar infra-red activation, safety light curtain and photocells.

Union’s fast acting door replaces an inefficient and unreliable door manufactured by an overseas competitor, which was difficult to maintain due to limited access to replacement parts.

The 3.3m wide x 3.0m high Bulldoor, which opens automatically at approximately 1.6m per second, is ideal for external openings subject to moderate wind loads. It is widely used in many different applications across a range of industries and is capable of completing well over a million cycles each year.

The door at Bryans features a partial grade 304 stainless steel finish that consists of side guides, foot plate plinths and control panel enclosure. This upgrade in specification has proven to be popular within the food industry in moderate wash-down areas.

In common with the other doors in the range, the Bulldoor also features Union’s highly-regarded ‘Crash-Out’ and ‘Auto-Reset’ damage protection facility, which ensures the door remains operable if the heavy duty steel composite bottom beam is hit by a vehicle.

Bryans Salads grows a large proportion of its salad and vegetables in Tarleton near Preston, Lancashire. It has more than 40 full-time staff and provides additional employment for nearly 100 people in busy harvest periods. Its production facility is equipped with state of the art washing, mixing and bagging machinery, which are housed in a temperature controlled environment.

Neil Irwin, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “The Bulldoor has earned itself a reputation second to none in the food processing industry. Its durability, reliability, and in this case partial stainless steel finish will ensure it provides good service for many years to come.

“The robust manufacture, coupled with the speedy opening of the door makes it an ideal solution for companies operating in exposed locations where reducing the effects of cold wind is important to productivity and employee comfort.”

Sally Storey, Technical Manager at Bryans Salads, said: “I’ve been extremely impressed with the quality of Union’s Bulldoor. The high standard of the product has however been matched, if not bettered, by the customer service displayed before, during and after the installation.

“We initially called Union regarding a quote and to my surprise, Neil paid us a visit that same day. I’ve been well informed of the progress throughout since then and would recommend the company & its doors without a second thought.”
