New for 2015 from Dawsonrentals portable cold rooms (PCR) is the High Capacity Cold Store which now includes the option to maintain temperatures down to -20ºC.
Dawsonrentals PCR has built an enviable reputation based on the highest levels of product and customer service, providing bespoke cold stores to industries as diverse as FMCG, pharmaceuticals and logistics.
The original inflatable cold store is a ready alternative to container based cold storage. Manufactured from two layers of fire retardant composite textile material, the cavity formed between these layers is pressurised with air producing an extremely rigid structural element. This creates a rigid building ideally suited for both temporary and permanent indoor and outdoor applications.
One of PCR’s key differences is the speed new products are brought to market in response to customer needs. The High Capacity Cold Store is a perfect example; after every hire customers are asked for their feedback. Two issues reported were whether it was possible to lower the operating temperature and could the usable space inside be increased?
The original design benefited from a curved roof which was naturally strong but reduced the usable space at the sides and the challenge for reducing the temperature was how to create and economically maintain the temperature gradient, while facilitating operations such as picking and replenishing.
Christian Williams, Managing Director Dawsonrentals PCR takes up the story, “The technical challenge started with creating a self-supporting structure that met our customer’s need for minimal running costs. Keeping a high-power compressor running to maintain an inefficient structure was not an option. So we worked with our manufacturing partners and have created an innovative structure capable of handling up to 20 pallets stacked to head height, deemed the maximum safe height for free standing storage. Not only that but after exhaustive testing we also developed a forklift compatible, quick access door.”
From delivery to operating, a PCR High Capacity cold room or freezer is ready in just a few hours with operating temperatures achieved rapidly. Christian continues, “Undoubtedly the greatest challenge was flooring. Our products are easily linked together making complexes and work on almost any flat surface but heat from the ground was a stumbling block. After consulting with many industry experts we have developed a highly efficient, high capacity flooring system so we can deliver an efficient rapid installation freezer unit.”
The final element is the refrigeration units themselves which are specified to match the client’s desired operating parameters. In all instances delivery and installation is by Dawsonrentals’ own dedicated team.
Christian concludes, “Our customers are rightly demanding but what sets Dawsonrentals apart is that we listen, we act and we deliver. Our first freezer units are out in use with customers and we are enjoying the highly positive feedback.”
