WLN – What’s the most exciting thing about your job?

paul-mohan_crop[5]That’s a good question! I relish the opportunity to lead, improve and grow the business and the team. I like to focus on what I call the “3C’s”: Customer – Delighting Our Customer, Colleague – Inspiring Our Colleagues, and Commercial – Delivering Our Profit.

WLN – Who’s inspired you most in your career?

I would not say that there is one specific person as I have been lucky enough to work with many influential leaders. I have learned from them all, taking account of both the good and not so good points. I am inspired by leaders who can engage with colleagues at all levels and lead by example with strong ethics.

WLN – If you were an item in a warehouse, what would you be?

I would be the Warehouse Management System (WMS) that controls the flow of goods and information driving the warehouse efficiency. It’s the brain of the operation!

WLN – If you had to do it all over again, what would you do different?

To be honest, I wouldn’t do anything differently. When I started as a graduate with Christian Salvesen I was not sure how far I could go, however I have thoroughly enjoyed my career to date and have met some fantastic people. I am still very ambitious and there is plenty of fuel still left in the tank!

WLN – Who or what makes you laugh?

I would definitely say my wife and children make me laugh the most, especially when we are all together. It is important to spend as much time as possible with your family.

WLN – Do you have any hidden talents?

I certainly do! I represented two counties in Gaelic Football, namely Fermanagh and Yorkshire. It’s an absolutely fantastic game that keeps you very fit.

WLN – Who would be your favourite party guest?

I will have to be greedy and pick three: Winston Churchill, John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King. They have all been influential in changing the course of history and the way people think. They are great speakers and understand the power of communication and inspiring people. However, I’m not sure I would get a word in!

WLN – What is the greatest luxury in your life?

I appreciate being able to afford quality holidays and to be able to relax with my family. A holiday is the perfect time to recharge the batteries and explore new places.

WLN – What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

I will have to say crisps – I eat them when no one is around. They are so moreish!

WLN – Do you have any secret ambitions?

I still harbour the ambition to play for Arsenal, the football team I have supported since 1978 after watching my first FA Cup Final on TV. It was amazing to see them lift the same trophy again recently.

WLN – What are your three favourite movies of all time?

Twelve Angry Men, Forrest Gump and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. They are all epic films that I could watch over and over again.

WLN – What is your favourite book of all time?

An Evil Cradling by Brian Keenan, it is a must-read! I am not sure I would have had the strength to survive like he did.

WLN – What’s your favourite pastime?

With all the hours that we work in this industry, there is not much time for anything else. However, spending time with my family is the best.

WLN – If you won the Lottery, what would you do?

Firstly, I would enjoy a great day and night out with close friends and family that could keep the secret! Secondly, I would consider who in my family would need some money, as well as donating some funds to local charities. I’d then plan a month’s holiday around the world with my wife and children, before getting back to work.

WLN – What would be your advice to someone thinking about coming into the industry (apart from “don’t do it”)?

Treat everyone with respect and always leave people feeling positive and good about themselves. You will achieve more with your team on your side, and it is a great feeling to share success.
