To help you do just that, bound into this issue you’ll find the Warehouse & Logistics News 2015 ‘The Warehouse’ supplement. It’s an in-depth look at the internal workings of the modern warehouse, including materials handling equipment, storage solutions, planning, lighting, flooring and the IT needed to run these operations.

In these pages you’ll also find our scheduled features on Pallet Networks, a review of the European, UK and regional pallet networks, and Conveying & Sortation, covering automated materials handling equipment and systems, robotics and AGV systems.

Everyone’s a winner, baby, as the recently departed Errol Brown of Hot Chocolate once sang. Not only do we have a clear Election result. In the world of warehousing and logistics we can also announce some definite winners in the International Forklift Truck of the Year Awards, aka the IFOYs. The names were revealed at the IFOY Award Night at BMW World in Munich. The IFOYs recognise the year’s best materials handling equipment and intralogistics solutions. They document the performance capability and innovative drive of the materials handling and intralogistics sector, helping boost competitiveness and raise awareness of the industry.

As featured on our front page the IFOY Award 2015 in the category “Counter Balanced Truck up to 3.5 tonnes” went to Jungheinrich’s EFG S30 three-ton electric forklift as the best forklift truck of the year. The key factor in the IFOY jury’s decision was the completely overhauled workplace featuring numerous innovations under the working title ‘Operator in Mind’. The jury called the EFG S30 a “perfect all-rounder for the mass market,” with an ergonomically and intelligently designed workplace meeting the needs of the new generation of drivers. The easy and automatic battery change function and the “Pure Energy” technology concept permitting two-shift working without changing battery are further innovative features not implemented before.

The IFOY Award 2015 in the “Intralogistics Solution” category went to Still GmbH. Their intralogistics solution for Kuraray Trosifol’s new raw materials warehouse in North Rhine-Westphalia, combines semi-automatic shuttle vehicles and automated FM-X reach trucks in a high-density rack-channel warehouse for the first time. The IFOY Award 2015 in the “Warehouse Truck” category went to the Tergo URS from Swedish manufacturer UniCarriers GmbH. The jury selected the combined narrow aisle and reach truck as the best new warehouse truck of the year. Congratulations to all concerned.
