On Thursday 9th April 2015, the team from Voiteq, Kellogg’s and third party logistics provider Norbert Dentressangle were presented with an award for Warehouse Efficiency and also collected the accolade of Overall Winner at the SHD Logistics Awards. This event celebrates excellence in the logistics industry, across eleven main categories. In the Warehouse Efficiency category there was a host of strong finalists. The Kellogg’s Voice project picked up the award owing to the substantial efficiency gains that it experienced.

The company saw a growth in individual case pick assembly requirements which created the need for innovation through the use of Voice-directed picking combined with Intelligent Volumetric-Cubing. Voiteq’s VoiceMan Execution System took master data to cube and group products into the appropriate customer specific pallet stack, ensuring they are picked and built correctly and transportable to stores without compromising product integrity and within tighter delivery lead times.

“Since last year we’ve worked very hard with Voiteq to develop a unique solution. Our customers’ requirements can vary and expectation for the perfect pallet is high, which means our service needs to remain very flexible to fulfil these obligations,” commented Abzy Shaikh, head of UK & ROI distribution at Kellogg’s. “This award marks our commitment to providing the best service possible for our customers, whilst lowering our costs and C02 emissions. We’re proud to have worked with so many great partners and are delighted that our innovation stood out to the judges.”

The judge’s comments, read out by Romesh live on stage, said: Kellogg’s with Voiteq, implemented a warehouse solution which generated a collective productivity improvement of 40 per cent in case pick operations. Retailers can now receive their orders stacked to their own requirements and built in order to protect the product and shorten breakdown times.

From start to finish, the programme which has won the Overall Winner Award, took less than 12 months and involved a core team of eight people across all organisations involved. During this period the programme touched up to 200 people. Once developed, a trial commenced for an agreed eight week period to prove the newly developed solution could bring all the benefits required, given the objectives, which it did. A strong Overall Winner at this year’s Awards.

“The Voice and Volumetric-Cubing project with Kellogg’s was one of the first of its kind and we worked closely with Kellogg’s and its third party logistics provider, Norbert Dentressangle, to develop a seamless Voice-directed work solution that also takes weight, size and stack metrics into account,” remarked Isabel McCabe, managing director of Voiteq Ltd. “We’re very proud to work with a great company and winning such awards as these are a true testament to the hard work and innovation displayed by all of the teams involved. We also congratulate the other finalists of the night, it’s fantastic to work in an industry where we see true innovation and results.”

Other winners on the night across categories included:  Fresh Logistics, DHL and House of Fraser, Munters, Proximity with Scandinavian House, Peel Ports Group, Kuehne & Nagel with SEC Storage, John Lewis, Century Logistics, Widdop Bingham with Proteus Software, Great Bear and Unipart Aftermarket Logistics.
