FrontWelcome to the 15 April Warehouse & Logistics News. We hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break.

READ THE April 15th ISSUE

In this issue we are proud to present our preview supplement for Multimodal 2015. Warehouse & Logistics News is the established media partner for the UK and Ireland’s leading freight transport and logistics exhibition, celebrating its eighth year and taking place at the NEC, Birmingham from Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th April. If you’re coming to the show, make a note in your diary to pop along and visit the W&LN team on stand 1220.

If you’re staying put, in our features in this issue you can find out all about power sources, order picking and packaging. ‘Power Sources’ covers all aspects of motive power in the warehouse and logistics environment, including batteries, LPG and engines. ‘Order Picking’ takes in Pickers, pick to light, voice picking. ‘Packaging’ includes returnable transit packaging, stretch wrappers and other forms of protection used throughout the supply chain.

Taking protection to new levels, on our front page we hear from Rack Armour about their latest, innovative barrier range. Made from ballistics grade HDPE, the new barriers are modeled on the bestselling upright protector which Rack Armour have been selling worldwide for ten years, and deliver an industry leading product at an affordable price.

Jenny Charlton, Director of Rack Armour, says that with the extreme global popularity of the company’s upright protector it was an obvious move. The barrier range is made from the same impact resistant material as Rack Armour’s upright protector, which has been revolutionising the market for a decade. The new barriers are great value for money, considering the benefits over conventional metal systems. The range consists of five barrier types each with its own benefits for varying warehouse needs and requirements.

When conventional metal barriers are struck, they damage trucks and rip up concrete as energy is transferred through to the ground. Due to Rack Armour’s barriers’ striking highly visible colour, impacts are in most cases limited due to materials handling equipment drivers being aware of their safe working limitations. In the event that a collision does occur the barriers diffuse the impact energy through their closed cell foam interior, reducing the chance of damage to the barrier or the floor.

Speaking of pushing back the barriers, congratulations to the organisers of the recent IntraLogisteX event, which debuted last month at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, and to which Warehouse & Logistics News was proud to be the official media partner. It’s always exciting to be involved with a successful new event in logistics and supply chain solutions. We wish the show well for the future.
