The annual awards, run by the FLTA, represent the industry’s foremost recognition of engineering and design excellence. Held to celebrate the best companies within the fork lift truck industry, the awards aim to set the bar for higher standards throughout the industry.

Ben Feehan also won the runner up to the Apprentice of the year award. Ben is in the third year of his apprenticeship at Linde Material Handling and was recognised by BITA and the FLTA as one of the top apprentices in the UK. Following his finalists interview  the panel decided  that Ben deserved to be recognised for his achievements and performance in his interview.

Linde also won the safety category for Linde Safety Pilot – Exclusively from Linde and the first of its kind in the forklift industry – a unique electronic driver assistance system that shows the operator; the load weight on the fork arms, current lift height, tilt angle of the fork arms and subsequent load centre, and the maximum lift height to which the load may be raised. It helps operators to be informed by displaying the information on a screen which produces a visual and acoustic warning when the truck parameters are reaching their limit. If ignored the truck control unit also actively intervenes and regulates the truck functions to eliminate accidents. The technology behind the system relies on sensors that measure data at different points on the truck and then forwards this information to the control unit.

FLTA chief executive Peter Harvey said: “Safety is a subject that sits at the very heart of the Fork Lift Truck Association. In developing the Safety Pilot – an industry first – Linde has played an important role in helping to reduce the risk of accident and injury to fork lift truck operators and those who work alongside them.”

This is the second year Linde has won the Safety category and demonstrates our commitment to safety for our customers. Allison Tucker, Linde Counterbalance Product Manager said “Linde Safety Pilot is an exciting new product from Linde and a breakthrough in reducing the risk of accidents in the warehouse and improving occupational safety.”
