When spring comes, the increased light levels and higher temperatures boost energy levels in nature. And in business spring’s arrival makes people happier and more disposed to make purchasing decisions, boosting the climate here too. So it’s a good time to invest in warehousing operations. In this issue we have features on The Loading Bay, Fork Trucks and Storage Solutions. ‘The Loading Bay’ includes industrial doors, dock levelers and dock lifts. ‘Fork Trucks’ looks at all things fork truck, including counterbalance trucks, side loaders, VNA, reach trucks and other specialist machines. ‘Storage Solutions’ covers maximising efficient use of space in the warehouse, including pallet racking, cantilever racking, shelving and other applications.

Online shopping has transformed the way consumer goods are sold in Europe and worldwide, and goes on making news as one of the strongest forces driving logistics. On our front page, automation specialist Swisslog is to deliver its newly developed order fulfilment system for DB Schenker Logistics in Arlandastad, Sweden. The global logistics provider is the first to implement the pioneering CarryPick solution, part of the Swisslog Click&Pick e-commerce portfolio, for its customer Lekmer.com, Scandinavia’s largest online toy retailer.

Swisslog’s Click&Pick e-Commerce portfolio consists of several modules combined into customised, scalable solutions, including conveyors, lifting technology, software and other innovative technologies such as AutoStore, SmartCarrier and CarryPick. The CarryPick solution comprises 65 Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), 1,500 mobile racking units and seven ergonomic workstations, installed together with Swisslog’s proprietary control systems, WarehouseManager.

The technology behind the fully automated storage and order fulfilment solution has been proven in similar installations across the world. This is the first time, however, that the full scale CarryPick solution is being implemented, designed together with DB Schenker Logistics to provide Lekmer.com with an automated supply chain that guarantees faster order processing, higher quality and lower handling costs and delivers levels of productivity exceeding all manual solutions in the industry.

Happy Easter, and we hope you have a good break.
