“A motivational working environment is paramount to our business”

Mosca Direct, the wholly owned UK subsidiary of strapping specialist Mosca GmbH, is celebrating entering its 15th year of business with plans for the further expansion and development of its business.

Since 2000, Mosca Direct has enjoyed consistent growth to become a dedicated supplier to leading names in the graphics, corrugated, packaging, timber, pharmaceutical and other industrial sectors in the UK and Ireland. From an initial team of seven employees, the company today has a workforce of 28, including highly experienced sales, customer service and engineering teams to respond to customers’ needs, and is continuing to recruit.

The immediate success of the business saw it quickly outgrow its original 5,000 sq ft facility at Colliers Business Park in Nottinghamshire and in 2001 the company moved to its present 10,000 sq ft premises on the same site. In 2008, further growth necessitated investment in a major expansion which included new office space and an extended workshop to improve flexibility in handling larger strapping machines.

Now in 2014, following continued expansion, the management team is currently reviewing the existing office and warehouse facilities as Managing Director, Gaye Tate, explains: “It won’t be long before we have outgrown all of the desk and storage space we currently have available. Having a motivational working environment to suit our growing business is paramount and therefore we will be looking to either extend or remodel at our current site.”

Mosca Direct has maintained its impressive record of growth and employee recruitment even during the recession, thanks to its strong customer service philosophy and the quality of Mosca equipment. Notable recent appointments have included Julie Walton as Engineering and Operations Director, who has been instrumental in the refinement of all of Mosca UK’s engineering and operational processes, and Julie Mills, who has facilitated the setting up of new procedures to cover a detailed machine ordering process, from initial quotation through to post installation reporting.

Another important development has been the introduction of Protean, a specific records management software for use within manufacturing industries. This has now been extended for use on Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), which has further enhanced Mosca’s engineering service and parts management. “This takes the quality of our service to our customers to an even higher level, which is not offered by any of our competitors,” explains Gaye Tate.

With more growth and expansion projected, Mosca Direct is well placed to enjoy many more years of success. “As we approach the 15 year milestone, it’s a great opportunity to say how grateful we are to both Mosca GmbH for recognising the potential of the UK market, and to our customers for trusting Mosca Direct to deliver the best possible strapping solutions and service,” says Gaye Tate.

Originally founded in Germany in 1966, Mosca remains a family-owned business today with a reputation for reliability, performance and innovation. Among the company’s most significant recent achievements is the innovation of patented sonic sealing technology. Branded as ‘SoniXs’, the technology utilises powerful sonic vibrations to seal the two ends of strap together rather than the heat-seal method. It produces a stronger seal than traditional methods and as it omits the need for any heat up time, it is extremely energy efficient and cost effective, only consuming energy as and when needed.

Mosca Direct offers Mosca’s full range of automated strapping machines which are based on a modular design and fit easily into existing lines or as part of a new project.
