Now in its eighth year, the 2015 FTA everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards recognise the talents of remarkable women in transport and logistics. The Awards bring to light the wealth of female role models in the industry, helping to retain women in the workforce and encourage more women to consider a career in the sector.

everywoman and the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is calling for organisations, HR leaders and individuals in the industry to nominate colleagues or peers who are making a difference in their organisation – self nominations are also encouraged.

Former Award-winners include fleet planning engineers, warehouse operatives, directors, drivers to site managers, hailing from large organisations such as DHL, Asda and Tesco to small and medium enterprises.

The Warehousing Award – sponsored by DHL

Awarded to a woman who is excelling in her role within a warehousing environment.

The winner of the 2014 Warehousing Award was Claire Morrissy, Deputy Distribution Centre Manager, Tesco PLC. Claire joined Tesco in 2004 as a System Manager in Southampton Distribution Centre, later becoming a Project Manager within the Network Development Team. As Deputy Distribution Centre Manager for Tesco, Claire’s secondment to launch the Dagenham site resulted in it being hailed as the best Distribution Centre opening to date.
Claire has been pivotal to improving efficiencies and delivering projects on budget and ahead of time. Whilst working at Tesco’s, Claire studied for an MBA and a Post graduate Certificate in Psychology. She is a mentor, a representative on the Women in Leadership Programme and Founder of the Doughnut Awards – designed to boost morale and team satisfaction.

Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of everywoman, comments, “The industry has worked tirelessly to encourage diversity through its commitment to training, promotion and job satisfaction. The success of this is now being felt across the industry, but there is more that can be done to attract women and to demonstrate why transport and logistics are paths to career prosperity. The awards are important because through celebrating success and showcasing the variety of job opportunities especially those working in the warehousing environment, we will ensure future generations of talent drive the industry forward.”

Theo de Pencier, Chief Executive of the FTA says, “The key for the logistics industry is to be able to access a wider talent pool to be able to meet its needs for good qualify staff in whichever role it needs to fill, and working with everywoman offers FTA opportunities to expand that work.”

Nominations are open for seven categories to highlight the diversity in the sector. One category is dedicated to warehousing but other awards would be relevant to many women working in warehousing, including Rising Star of the year and Leader of the year.
