Union Industries, the UK market leading manufacturer of industrial rapid roll doors, has completed a dual installation to help with environmental challenges at Dundee Energy Recycling Ltd (DERL).

The Leeds-based manufacturer has installed two Ramdoor Plus doors to prevent odours emitted from waste on site escaping, as well as reducing ingress from the surrounding wildlife.

With fast opening and closing speeds, along with fully automatic operation, the doors significantly reduce the loss of negative pressure within the holding area and thus minimising the opportunity for odour to escape and wildlife to gain access to the  waste holding area.

Union’s heavy duty doors replace those of a competitor which were damaged by traffic accessing the site. Unlike its rivals’, all of Union’s doors feature a ‘Crash-Out’ damage protection facility, which ensures that the door remains operable if the steel composite bottom beam is hit by a speeding vehicle.

This system drastically reduces repair costs and guarantees minimal down-time if the door is impacted upon by traffic such as forklift trucks.

DERL is an energy from waste company based in Dundee. Its plant is the first of its kind and generates energy through the incineration of waste, which it collects from Local councils and private waste management companies.

Steve Moultrie, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “The Ramdoor is the ideal solution for DERL. Not only does it address its main concerns but also has the added benefit of improved security and efficiency.

“We pride ourselves on the durability of our doors and have built an excellent reputation in industries that deal with high levels of traffic. With the ‘Crash-Out’ facility our doors are also likely to last a lot longer than the alternatives on the market.”

Rodger McMullan, Managing Director at DERL, said: “Odour control is an obvious issue when dealing with waste We are mindful of the local community and do our upmost to reduce all odour emissions. With this in mind I would highly recommend Union’s Ramdoor to other companies trying to manage a similar issue.”
