Hörmann continues to develop its products and services to meet the changing requirements of the logistics sector. New doors, control systems and safety devices, plus maintenance and repair are all part of the manufacturer’s complete offering.

Responding to the increasing demand for better insulation, Hörmann’s industrial high speed sectional range has been expanded this year, with a new generation of thermally efficient doors. The Thermo SPU, APU and ALR models all feature a 67mm deep profile that incorporates a built-in thermal break to offer even better thermal U-values. These compact, double-skinned steel doors benefit from a rigid polyurethane infill, which means they require up to 55 per cent less energy to operate.

Over 20 per cent of Hörmann’s industrial door orders during 2014 have been for wicket doors, such as the Thermo SPU 67. This new design has a clear passage width of 905mm, and includes concealed hinges, built-in door closers and a unique trip-free threshold. Hörmann’s scratch-resistant Duratec finish can be selected in double, triple and quadruple units, along with the option of climatic double pane glass units, depending on the level of insulation needed.

For areas where further insulation is absolutely vital, the Thermo SPU 67 can be installed with Hörmann’s specially designed ThermoFrame. This plastic profile creates an additional seal between the door frame and the building, leading to an excellent U-value of up to 0.75 W/(m².K).

If speed is important to the function of external doors opening and closing, spiral options are ideal to maintain optimum temperatures and prevent any unnecessary heat losses. Spiral doors are characterised with PU insulating panels, fast opening speeds and light grilles as standard. The galvanized, double-skinned sections with a Micrograin surface finish are safely, smoothly and quickly guided into a spiral of tracks.

Hormann-high-Speed-SpiralHörmann’s HS 7030 PU, for example, features non-contact roll-up technology, but if space is limited in the lintel area, the high-speed sectional HS 5015 PU N only requires 480mm of headroom. This door operates via a normal track application with a spring chain mechanism.

Insulation is equally important when it comes to acoustics, and is often a statutory requirement in warehouses. Hörmann’s range of high-speed sectional doors incorporates acoustic ratings of up to –31 dB (A). The HS 5015 Acoustic H door is particularly effective, as it boasts five hollow UPVC/30 PU infill aluminium profiles.

The drive to offer new product flexibility in its wicket doors and high speed sectionals is all part of Hörmann’s leading approach to offering improved levels of thermal efficiencies. All of this is backed up with service that encompasses initial advice, design and planning, right through to installation and ongoing maintenance and repair.

Not only has the company become established as a true one-stop-shop for all industrial door and loading bay requirements, Hörmann is also fast becoming known for its worldwide green credentials.

As energy costs rise, the benefits of running an energy-efficient operation extend far beyond being seen to be green. Sustainability is increasingly at the heart of warehouse planning, with energy-saving measures being implemented in factories across the UK.

Hörmann’s eco solutions are also reflected in its own processes. Demonstrating a clear commitment to sustainable production, the manufacturer always strives to reduce its carbon footprint.

Annual CO2 emissions across Hörmann’s 16 factories have been lowered by 16,000 tonnes over the years through a variety of measures. These include the use of renewable generated energy, the installation of combined heat and power plants, and switching from oil to gas heating at many locations. Such measures allow Hörmann to maintain its high manufacturing standards, while significantly reducing its environmental impact.

As a commitment to energy efficiency, an ISO 50001 energy management system has also been introduced throughout the Group. This includes intelligent building services management to help lower power consumption across the individual factories.

Raw materials for Hörmann’s products are, where possible, sourced from local suppliers in central Europe, reducing the consequences of transporting goods to its manufacturing facilities in Germany. The benefit to customers of such stringent policies is that the company can therefore provide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). This gives a real immediacy for industrial real estate owners and tenants, meaning that warehouse operations can start much sooner with the relevant EPDs to hand from the outset.

If insulation and innovative thermal properties are a key priority, Hörmann offers high quality products that can have a significantly positive environmental impact on factories and loading bays.
