As Britain gets ready to take a collective breather over the Christmas-New Year break, it’s the season for taking stock. We’re publishing with this issue our Review of The Year 2014, an in-depth look back at the major stories from the last 12 months. Now an established part of the industry calendar our Review includes independent write-ups from leading trade associations, and profiles of the brightest and the best manufacturers and service providers from each sector.

Meanwhile Britain’s supply chains go on working up to the Christmas break and all through it. So it’s business as usual in our scheduled features in the main magazine, which examine fork trucks, storage solutions and pallets, essential ingredients in successful warehousing and logistics operations all year round.

On our front cover, global automation business, Swisslog is celebrating the sale of its 1,000th AutoStore robot, sold to Competec as part of a comprehensive project to extend its customer fulfillment capabilities. The robots are an important part of Swisslog’s overall service, and the company’s UK MD James Sharples sees the sale of the thousandth one as a major milestone, reflecting the speed with which the market has embraced AutoStore, and signaling the success of the company’s core capability as a full service supplier.

Swisslog have now realised over 35 AutoStore projects worldwide and continue investing in developing further improvements to the system’s performance. Swisslog’s Click&Pick solution, using the AutoStore storage and retrieval system, has been developed to provide optimal space usage in new and existing installations. Click&Pick integrates AutoStore technology with e-Commerce focused software and pick stations. The pick stations allow customers to increase pick rates and virtually eliminate picking errors, whilst also providing a more reliable system than otherwise thought possible. AutoStore has also played a key role in the growth of retail businesses, offering a way to meet the logistics challenges of e-commerce.
