In retail, particularly in the lead up to Christmas, fulfilling an increased amount of orders demands a different scale of viable thinking, which is why Hörmann’s fundamental approach to loading bay systems is driven directly by the customer.

hormann_johnlewis_magnapark_2014[3]As such, the industrial door manufacturer and loading bay specialist believes good working relationships are vital in order to have an in-depth understanding of the specific needs of individual sites, and the overall operational needs of a business.

With partnerships in mind, a successful consultation process, specification bid and installation can be achieved through regular, thorough communications between the retailer, manufacturer and logistics developer, ensuring continual learning and best practise.

Notably, this year, John Lewis Partnership announced its expansion into a second plot at IDI Gazeley’s Magna Park national distribution site in Milton Keynes. Work commenced on plot 120 back in January, with Hörmann and Northampton-based Winvic Construction in consultation. Another installation within the retail group is underway next door, featuring similar products for Waitrose with local contractor McClaren Construction.

Hörmann’s projects division managed the installation of 70 double-deck loading bays at the high-profile location, spending nearly five months on site in total. This is one of the larger contracts Hörmann has in place with IDI Gazeley and John Lewis Partnership, which is worth over £1million to the UK business, making a significant impact in Hörmann’s industrial sales for this quarter.
In addition, fully insulated fire doors, fast action motorised sectional doors and level access warehouse sectionals were installed alongside associated equipment and accessories, such as double-deck dock levellers, shelters, electric top curtains, bollards, bumpers and lighting.

As well as what Hörmann believes to be excellent contractor relations with the likes of IDI Gazeley, the German company believes that a smooth transition and first-rate operational functionality, akin to the John Lewis Partnership build, is achievable when also listening and communicating with each of the construction companies involved. And providing them with solutions and fit-for-purpose products that will not fail or breakdown, only adds to a strong and lucrative installation.

With 2015 fast approaching, Hörmann is looking forward to upcoming retail projects on the horizon, while aiming to become a preferred supplier to the likes of John Lewis Partnership in the not-too-distant future.

“The retail sector is very important to our business, and 2014 is certainly testament to that,” commented Hörmann’s Commercial Director Alan Jenkins. “With a growing roster of national clients, from Prologis and Amazon, to ASDA and Waitrose, the industrial teams here have some exciting distribution warehouse projects and promising leads in the pipeline.”
