As the UK’s leading independent nationwide specialist in short-term materials handling solutions, Cannock-based Briggs Equipment is investing a further £10.5million to broaden its range and satisfy increasing demand.

briggs_equipment_strThe company, which has its headquarters and national service centre in Orbital Way, has identified short-term rental (STR) as a key growth area of the materials handling services marketplace and over the past few years has been building its capability.

Since 2010 Briggs has made a capital investment of more than £50.5m in equipment. This year alone, £8.3million is being invested in new warehousing equipment, including reach trucks, powered pallet trucks, order pickers and electric counterbalance forklift trucks. All of the equipment is the very latest specification and can be hired for periods of as little as one day up to 12 months to provide customers with the most reliable solution to meet their seasonal, occasional and emergency needs. Briggs is also adding specialised aerial access equipment plus the JCB Workmax utility terrain vehicle to its STR fleet, which represents an additional investment of almost £2 million.

“Our customers like the idea of a ‘one stop’ resource that would not only provide them with the facility to hire in forklift trucks to cope with spikes in capacity, but would also enable them to obtain specialised equipment for a limited time,” says Allan Parsons, National Rental Manager at Briggs.

“This latest £10.5million investment in our short-term rental fleet means we can offer a highly cost-effective solution comprising the very latest materials handling equipment coupled with tailored contracts to meet individual customer needs and the engineering know how to maintain optimum equipment performance.”

In addition to expanding its fleet Briggs has appointed a new regional development team, which is being tasked with improving communication, maintaining high standards of service and identifying new market opportunities.
