High bay sensor launched for reduced lighting maintenance burden in warehouses

Steinel (UK) Ltd, the market leader in lighting sensor technology, is launching the HBS 200, an easy-to-install, indoor occupancy sensor, which can unlock major savings on energy and maintenance in high-ceilinged industrial applications.

The HBS 200 is designed to be highly sensitive even when mounted at a height of 14m. With a five-year warranty as standard, it uses passive infrared (PIR) sensor technology to provide a no-hassle means to automatically cut out the energy that’s wasted by lighting spaces when they aren’t in use. Reducing the burden placed upon high bay lighting not only reduces energy bills, it can also cut down on regular lamp replacement, reducing the need to undertake difficult maintenance at height.

Easy to install

The HBS 200 can be mounted onto high bay luminaires or junction boxes, reducing wiring needs and making for a straightforward installation process. It provides 360-degree coverage, with a 30m x 4m detection zone, which means that a single sensor is able to cover a long aisle or passageway.

Intelligent occupancy sensor

The HBS 200’s highly-intelligent PIR sensor, which features 280 switching zones, is sensitive enough to detect the presence of people at ground level, even when mounted at a ceiling height of 14m. This means the lights will automatically switch on when they are needed and switch off when the space is empty and no relay clicking sound.

Time delay control is also possible. The sensor’s time threshold can be adjusted to any setting, from 15 seconds to 30 minutes. What’s more, the response light level can be adjusted from 2-2000 lx, which means no more energy wasted on lighting spaces already lit by daylight.

Suitable for a range of industrial environments

Designed for use in the aisles of warehouses, distribution centres and loading docks, the HBS 200 is made from white UV-resistant plastic, with dimensions of 99 x 99 x 69.1 mm (nipple length: 15.75 mm). It is suitable for conditions of both extreme heat and cold, with full function retained at temperatures as low as -20°C and as high as 50°C.
