SeD Logistique, based in Paris, is a leading distributor of clothing, furniture and electronic appliances across France – both to the main retailers and also direct to the consumer. Some 95% of goods are handled using Dürkopp Fördertechnik’s sorter bag system which helps ensure that SeD’s promise of dispatching orders within 48 hours is met in full.

The numbers associated with SeD’s operation are certainly impressive. Up to 20,000 customer orders are picked a day from a range of 160,000 different items which, in addition, to hanging garments range from toys and jewellery to shoe boxes and electrical items.

All articles are first picked from the warehouse and then removed from their containers at the seven charging stations – six are dedicated to flat goods and one to hanging garments. The operators scan the barcodes of each article and then slide them into the sorter bag, also adding each article’s data to the transponder to ensure accurate tracking and identification of the goods throughout the process.

The bags are then stored in buffer tracks before going through a three-stage sorting process which can handle up to 5,000 bags an hour.

The final stage happens at the eight packing stations where goods are prepared for despatch with the operator receiving all the information necessary to complete the order process via a monitor.

Proof of the success of SeD Logistique’s operation is provided by their collaboration with fashion and lifestyle retailer BrandAlley which -combined with Dürkopp sorter bag – helped SeD Logistique win the coveted Logistics Innovation Award in 2012 at SITL – the international logistics trade show held in Paris.
