A record 2,700 people took part in the third annual JCB Mud Run, including seven teams representing materials handling services specialist and event sponsor Briggs Equipment. The event took place on the 5th July and raised more than £50,000 in aid of the NSPCC.

Briggs Equipment’s seven teams – a mix of staff from across the business including Parts support, HR and Service support – were happy to get down and dirty as they ran, jumped, slid, crawled and splashed their way around the five-mile course on JCB’s estate in Rocester, Staffordshire. The natural terrain incorporates woods, rivers, inclines, peat and grass, while a few man-made obstacles, such as a 100ft rope climb and underground tunnels, provided an extra challenge and added to the fun.

“JCB and Briggs Equipment are two great British success stories. Working in partnership we keep JCB’s world class manufacturing operation at peak productivity. Events like the JCB Mud Run are a great, fun way to bring our businesses even closer together,” says Briggs Equipment’s Strategic Development Director Gary Clements.

JCB is one of Briggs Equipment’s most prestigious customers and the two businesses enjoy a longstanding relationship that goes back more than ten years. Briggs Equipment supplies and services JCB’s bespoke fleet of Hyster materials handling assets across 13 business units. Briggs Equipment has recently expanded its short term hire fleet with the addition of JCB’s new Workmax utility vehicles, rough terrain forklifts and telehandlers, and is strategically aligned to JCB’s distribution network.

JCB’s Worldwide Marketing Director Matt McClurg said: “This is the third JCB Mud Run and we are overwhelmed with the generosity of the sponsors. The event was a great success and is growing more and more popular every year.

“JCB would like to thank Briggs Equipment for their continuing support and in helping us raise so much for the NSPCC.”

Originally conceived as a one-off charity event, the JCB Mud Run has grown year on year. Organisers report that this year’s event was the biggest yet, attracting competitors from France and the Netherlands as well as from all over the UK.

George Bamford, son of JCB chairman Lord Bamford, took part and remarked on the tremendous camaraderie between the competitors. He then presented a cheque for £50,127 to the NSPCC.
