Britain might be out of recession but the market is in no way any less brutal than before, leaving little leeway for businesses to rest on their laurels. Efficiencies need to be driven more than ever as new entrants in the market drive competition and customers demand quicker and cheaper services. Streamlining services and reducing fuel bills are the go-to actions for the sector but the reality of this is not that simple when cuts and efficiencies have already been pushed to perceived limits.

At this point, advances in warehouse IT technology have to be investigated to find the answer in this highly competitive market. ByBox has been working closely with logistics managers for ten years, listening to their concerns and finding solutions to help them deliver efficiencies in their business and meet commercial targets. These conversations led us to set up our vast network of drop boxes across the country enabling engineers to send and pick up parts pre 8am ahead of the first job of the day. This cuts out time waiting for parts, enabling efficiency, saving time and increasing revenue.

However, it’s all very well enabling engineers to collect and return parts more quickly – that’s just the start. We needed to empower companies to have a complete and real time view of all the items they were sending through our vast supply chain network. We therefore introduced our proprietary Thinventory™ supply chain management system. This technology provides our clients with 100% visibility on the status of their order, from initial collection, in transit status to delivery and returns. This gives our clients the power to ensure their supply chain is working as hard as possible.

ByBox has recently partnered with RWE npower to support their logistics requirements for the installation of the energy company’s new wave of smart meters. The service has allowed RWE npower to have complete flexibility over its rollout programme and as a result of integrating ByBox’s Thinventory™ management platform, has provided detailed track and trace of their new serialised assets throughout the supply chain from manufacture, to engineer, to wall and return to asset owner. The partnership has enabled RWE npower’s engineers to have the right assets at the right time allowing them to deliver a great customer experience every time.

Given the pressure on businesses to continually hone services, introducing a more advanced IT infrastructure such as this ensures wastage is significantly reduced and everything in the supply chain from parts to engineers are working as effectively as possible.
