HSBC, Panasonic, Toyota, The Royal Mint, Heinz, Eurostar and Rolls Royce are just some of the hundreds of businesses who send their staff for training to York based Purchasing Management Services (PMS for short). PMS is internationally renowned for the professional development of stores/warehouse, stock control and purchasing personnel.

PMS offers two and three day training courses in stores and warehouse management, inventory control and professional purchasing. PMS has a very practical and no-nonsense approach to training which provides attendees with concepts and techniques that can be immediately applied in the workplace.

PMS Managing Director Gareth Roden says ‘theory is fine but what we want is for attendees to come on our courses and then apply that knowledge immediately in their job. We want stores and warehouse personnel to increase stock accuracy, reduce stock losses and control surplus and obsolete inventory. We want purchasing people to negotiate better deals and improve supplier delivery performance’.

Training is delivered through a variety of learning methods with a stimulating and lively style of presentation. Gareth says ‘we make everyone comfortable providing a very positive atmosphere in which to learn. Whether the attendee is a logistics director or forklift truck driver, we cater for all levels’. As well as increasing knowledge, attendees will gain confidence and be motivated to go back and achieve more for their businesses.

Unlike other training providers, PMS have their own purpose built training centre in York (see picture) and does not sub-contract out any training. All training courses are presented either by David Brown or Gareth Roden. Both have a wealth of real world experience in purchasing and materials management. David worked for Dunlop, BP, Ford and Portakabin before setting PMS up in 1983.

Gareth held senior purchasing positions with Lucas Automotive, British Coal and Qualter Hall before joining PMS in June 2000.

PMS-LogoCourses are mainly delivered at the PMS Training Centre but can also be run on an ‘in-house’ basis at client’s premises. PMS have provided on-site training at many well-known businesses including Thornton’s Chocolates, ARCO, BAE Systems, Siemens, McCain Foods, Best Western Hotels and RS Components. PMS have also worked with clients in Qatar, Moscow, the Czech Republic and Singapore.

With their down to earth, practical, but professional approach, PMS guarantees a productive and enjoyable experience for anyone attending their courses.
