Materials handling specialist, LB Foster, has completed a major refurbishment project at MINI Plant Oxford.

LB-Foster-Materials-Handling-Master-LogoThe contract was awarded through Autotech, the leading control systems supplier in the European automotive market. The solution included a complete renovation of in-floor slat conveyors on three of Plant Oxford’s assembly lines.

The work to uplift the mechanics and controls of the lines was necessary to future-proof manufacturing facilities at the plant to meet production projections and minimise the risk of operational issues.

Matt Challinor is the senior project manager of Autotech; he explains why LB Foster was selected to carry out this important task, “There were three key factors that influenced my decision to choose LB Foster; their portfolio of work, their familiarity of Plant Oxford and their competitive bid.

“All of the work has been completed to a high standard and well within the planned timeline. The assembly lines now have mechanically sound conveyor systems that are aligned to the latest control standards. They will provide functionality for the foreseeable future of the operation and beyond.”

Managing director of LB Foster Materials Handling, Gary Bale, concludes, “Refurbishment is an important aspect of the work we carry out for our clients. It helps to prolong the operational life of conveyor equipment whilst updating it to comply with current standards. At Plant Oxford refurbishing the in-slat floor conveyors provided BMW with the most cost effective solution to their challenge.

“We service a broad range of customers in the automotive and auto component industries. Our installations include a full range of overhead and floor conveyor products covering manufacturing, assembly lines, delivery systems and paint plants.”
