Warehouse_frontWe are also celebrating some other achievements this month, in the area of innovation and excellence in materials handling and logistics. On Wednesday 2nd July a 400-strong crowd of United Kingdom Warehousing Association members and their guests will gather at the 2014 UKWA Awards for Warehousing Ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London. Warehouse & Logistics News is proud once again to be the prestigious Awards’ official media partners. Don’t miss our exclusive Awards Preview in this issue, published in conjunction with UKWA. Here’s to good company, and a great afternoon! Our guest speaker is Giles Brandreth, the former Tory MP and regular guest on Radio 4’s Just A Minute, QI, the One Show and many others. At one point Giles held the world record for the longest continuous after-dinner speech at 12 and a half hours, which he did as a charity stunt. We hope he won’t repeat the performance for UKWA!

Also in this issue we have our scheduled feature on Warehouse Lighting, looking at smart lighting solutions for today’s warehouses, LED, energy-efficient, long-life and sensor-activated systems.

Going back to the UKWA’s, as our Preview makes clear, the UKWA Awards for Warehousing celebrate excellence in the UK third party logistics industry, and this year UKWA received a record number of entries, including submissions from some of the most important companies in materials handling and logistics. The UKWA Awards Committee has considered each nomination and selected finalists for each category. There are nine Awards categories open to UKWA members and suppliers to the 3PL sector, and the overall winner of each one will be announced at The Dorchester.

You can find full details in these pages. The overall winners will be announced and presented with their awards at the Dorchester, together with a further prize, the Chairman’s Award, and we will publish profiles of the winners in a future issue of Warehouse & Logistics News.

After the awards we’ll be first with details of the winners on our website www.warehousenews.co.uk, now averaging around 3,800 unique visitors per day. To find out who lifted the trophies at the Dorchester, you know where to look. And if you’re coming to the UKWA’s, we’ll see you there! Have a great month.
