Pegler Yorkshire is a leading manufacturer of advanced plumbing, heating and engineering products with a proud tradition dating back to 1890 with the formation of Pegler Limited and Yorkshire Fittings Limited. manitoupeglerThe manufacturing site at Doncaster has recently embarked on a £1 million capital investment to improve the furnace and immediate storage area with part of the project involving the sourcing of a Manitou 4 wheeled electric forklift, model type ME425 which has a load capacity of 2500kg and a lift height of 4 m 50 and is ideally suited to handle ‘big bags’ and skips containing brass waste material, which is then loaded into a hopper. A hydraulic rotator is fitted to the Triplex Mast of the Manitou forklift to facilitate the rotation of the skips to eject the brass material out of the skip. The brass then travels onto a conveyor system for direct input into the furnace. The Manitou electric forklift is highly manoeuvrable and can easily handle loads of brass material in very restricted areas. The brass waste comprises of ‘swarf’ from the production process plus rejected brass items and externally sourced scrap material.

Doncaster is the head office of Pegler Yorkshire and innovative manufacturing processes are an important part of the company’s development, with an average of £3.5 million invested in capital expenditure projects every year, not only at Doncaster but also in Leeds, Yorkshire and in Budapest, Hungary. Worldwide Pegler employs 1,400 people and is part of the Aalberts Industries NV.

Note: 1) England international forward Kevin Keegan was an apprentice at Peglers in the late 1960’s. Rumour has it that he was not selected to play in the Peglers works team!

Note: 2) Nearby is the famous ‘Arkwrights Store’ as featured in ‘Open All Hours’ the 1970’s TV comedy series starring Ronnie Barker and David Jason. The shop is actually a Ladies Hairdressing salon and was when the BBC series was filmed and is still today!
