HellermannTyton Group plc is a FTSE 250 company and a market leading global manufacturer and supplier of high performance and innovative cable management solutions for fastening, identifying, insulating, protecting, organising, routing and connecting components in electrical, automotive and datacom markets. The company operates world-class production facilities in 11 primary locations across nine countries – including two UK manufacturing plants – producing over 12 billion items annually across more than 20,000 SKUs. Headquartered in Crawley, the company has a presence in 34 countries and employs more than 3,000 people worldwide.

The company’s current UK National Distribution Centre is in Aldridge in the West Midlands, providing same day pick, pack and despatch of customer orders, as well as a collection facility for local customers. However, as HellermannTyton continues to increase its sales revenues and product range, it has outgrown the existing warehouse and brought in Davies & Robson to help develop plans for a new design and build facility to meet the future needs of the business.

Davies & Robson undertook detailed process mapping, activity and stock analysis as well as a review of the base functionality of the warehouse systems.

Recommendations included the introduction of multi-level picking using innovative in-rack flooring to ensure there are enough pick faces readily available to meet current and planned requirements and ’clear zones’ for reserve, fast, medium and slow moving items to support an efficient routing and minimal travel for order pickers.

Jon Churchley, Operations Manager at HellermannTyton continues to work with Davies & Robson as the new build activity nears completion. He says: “When we decided to move away from our existing warehouse it became clear that we needed some expert input. Davies & Robson not only provided that but became part of our planning team, working well with all members of my staff as well as bringing a fresh pair of eyes and some new thinking.”
