International mapping, geocoding, live traffic, plan vs actual and more

New TruckStops version 20 will be shown at the Commercial Vehicle Show on stand number 3F120, which is being held at the NEC in Birmingham, from 29 April to 1 May 2014.

Logistics professionals will be able to learn more about savings to be made by taking advantage of the latest routing and scheduling innovations in TruckStops from MapMechanics. For example, direct links to international internet mapping and geocoding, aerial photography, live traffic information, more detailed road speed data, a new more flexible, intuitive interface, and smart integration with tracking systems to facilitate plan vs actual analysis.

TruckStops now provides street level mapping and detailed geocoding (to place customer call points easily on the map) via direct links to the HERE location platform (formerly known as NAVTEQ). This means maps and postcodes are constantly updated and users can optimise routes and schedules for anywhere in the world. However, TruckStops VRS also includes locally held mapping and postcodes, so any interruption in the users? internet connections will not disrupt the planning process. The best of both worlds!

The same HERE location platform also includes aerial photography, so users can fine-tune the locations of their stops, taking account of detailed photos of the area. This is particularly useful in rural areas where perhaps the centre of the postcode or zipcode is not on the same road as the customer’s farm entrance or similarly for golf courses where the delivery point may not be near the postcode location.

And if the user needs truck restriction data (for instance low bridges and weight restrictions) or a live traffic feed, they can be accessed directly from within the TruckStops interface.

TruckStops now has native support for leading tracking and fleet management systems, making it possible to check ?planned versus actual? results and then make changes such as allocating drops to different depots, allowing more time for certain deliveries, and fine-tuning journey times in heavily congested areas.

Members of the TruckStops team will be on hand to guide users through the benefits and savings on offer (typically a cost reduction between 10 and 30 per cent) with the TruckStops routing and scheduling optimisation solution.
