On Friday 14/02/14 TVH received the status’ known consigner’ after an external audit by the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA). Concretely this means that TVH will not be charged any extra screening costs or incur any delays for the approx 1 million kg of cargo the company ships via passenger planes each year.

The 2 sites from where TVH ships its air freight have now been recognized as ‘known consigner’ and have therefore also officially received this status. This means that all safety and other conditions were fulfilled: access control of buildings, cargo safety but also of people and data streams. Each person with access to the air freight zone has a number of responsibilities. Wearing a personal TVH ID badge is one of them, but also e.g. a reporting duty for incidents, suspicious objects and unauthorized personnel. In addition, already more than 1100 TVH employees have taken the mandatory ‘Security Awareness Training Air Freight’.

After civil aviation, a basic safety level was now also established for air freight. Since 29 April 2013 a European regulatory process has been in effect, stating that all freight that is to be shipped by air, must be safe. Each company that ships goods by air must be registered in a EU-database. Only by obtaining the status Known Consigner (KC) can a company be registered. This status is valid for a 5-year period and can only be obtained by a company after a thorough audit by the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority.

In Belgium approximately 10,000 companies qualify for the KC status. This resulted in a bit of a waiting period but in the meantime TVH has passed the audit.
