Strapping specialist Mosca is continuing to enhance its strapping machine ranges to help companies reduce energy consumption and improve their carbon footprint.

The company’s latest SoniXs Pallet Press models use less energy than a domestic hair dryer and, as a result, are branded with Mosca’s ‘GET Inside’ (Green Efficient Technology) logo, which indicates that the machines benefit from more efficient energy consumption. The ‘GET Inside’ branding is visible on all of the machines that use SoniXs and Direct Drive technology.

Unlike heat seal technology, which requires a constant energy supply, SoniXs sealing technology consumes energy “on demand”, only when the seal needs to be made. In addition, wear-free direct drives further reduce energy consumption by minimising the need for service-intensive mechanical components and ensuring minimal friction during operation, which mean machines are almost entirely free of wear and maintenance.

Mosca’s SoniXs ultrasonic technology uses a patented sonotrode to produce a very strong consistent seal. This new ultrasonic sealing system is suitable for both PET and PP straps and offers a seal that is much stronger and far more resistant to tearing. The technology also reduces the sealing times, while the omission of heating time leads to a 50% increase in strapping speed. In addition, no fumes or smells are produced and there is no residue built up due to melting strap that needs to be disposed of, so it is clean as well as efficient. The SoniXs technology is available across a wide range of Mosca machines.

These latest Mosca initiatives follow the European Commission’s adoption of its ‘Energy Efficiency Plan 2011’ in which it states the goal for a 20% cut in Europe’s annual primary energy consumption by 2020. The Commission has proposed several measures to increase efficiency at all stages of the energy chain: from generation, transformation, distribution through to final consumption.

Gaye Tate, Mosca Direct’s Managing Director comments: “Energy efficiency is vital throughout all industries and it is an area where Mosca has always taken the lead. For example we first introduced wear-free direct drives in the 1990s which have since become an industry standard. We are committed to continuing to enhance the energy efficiency of our machines which will further enhance their performance. We will be adding SoniXs technology across the complete Mosca range of machinery in the upcoming months.”

Mosca equipment is supplied in the UK via the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary Mosca Direct.
